Especially Basswood,Gabro and now Bald Eagle. Done the Snake many times and great spot to see Moos(what's left) right when you enter Bald Eagle. |

08/07/2018 09:32PM Bugs were thick on the portages and in camp for the first 30-40 minutes at dusk. My 4 year old daughter was with me and she wore her head net on the portages. There was a pretty good breeze all weekend so that probably helped keep them out of camp. Tony |

08/07/2018 10:52AM Canoedog, I was in that way this past weekend. We drove up from the cities, leaving at 5 am and we got our permit at 9 and we were at the EP by 10 in the morning. The first portage is proabably about 240 rods. There’s a cool bridge about 3/4 of the way down that is worth a picture or two. The river is super narrow and aptly named, but plenty deep. There are four portages total before Bald Eagle, but the last one you can probably line through (we did). The river is so narrow at first that it’s hard not getting slapped in the face by branches. Once it hooks up with the Isabella River things widen significantly. We were on Bald Eagle by noon and had camp set up by one so we had time to fish and explore all of Friday afternoon. BE was an awesome lake and most sites were vacant so we grabbbed a nice site on the eastern shoreline. We caught massive crappies and eater-size walleyes straight out from camp in 7-17 feet of water. Hope you have a great time and enjoy your stay. Tony |

08/02/2018 04:55PM I haven’t done it in a few years but I do believe it’s less than 2 hours to the south end of Bald Eagle. |

08/02/2018 03:02PM So how is the paddle on the Snake to Bald Eagle? Going in on September 1. Headed to Bald Eagle and out Little Grabbro. Any thoughts are appreciated. |
