12/20/2018 02:50PM Yeah, you're definitely best off going Tin Can Mike to Horse, as others have said - it's much easier than Fourtown to Horse. I did not find the Mudro to Sandpit portage to be difficult - it's probably the hardest portage on the direct route from Mudro to Horse, but it's really not a difficult portage. Just don't plan on bringing a hard-sided cooler and you're fine ;-) |

12/20/2018 02:26PM The longish portage between Sand Pit and Tin Can is flat and easy |

12/20/2018 01:08PM Mudro-Horse is not the easiest, but somewhat less taxing than Mudro-Fourtown. Both routes are high on the list of favorites, however. |

12/20/2018 12:17AM The fastest way to Horse would be via Mudro, Sandpit and Tin Can Mike. The portage from Mudro to Sandpit is a “goat hill” but by all means the most direct way to Horse. It’s an up and over type of portage, but only as bad as you pack. The portages to Fourtown aren’t that bad and are more annoying than anything due to loading and unloading back to back to back. Depending on the time of year, fishing can vary on Horse. I’ve had luck at the head of Horse River in May and early June, along with the point off the first campsute on the eastern side before heading towards the river. Also, don’t expect to have the lake to yourself....this is usually a very busy area and you cannot get to the EP early enough! |

12/19/2018 09:52PM To your questions: 1. Yes. The route you described is the easiest and fastest way 2. Pretty good. We found walleyes working the points on the west side Have fun!! |

12/19/2018 09:33PM I had a great trip a few years ago to Fourtown Lake. We never did get into Horse Lake and I would not mind going there this coming year. A few questions some of you might be able to help with. #1: Is there an easier way into Horse as opposed to that brutal portage into Fourtown. Can you go through Sandpit into Tin Can Mike and then into Horse? #2 How is the fishing in Horse. We had great success a few years back catching many nice eating size Walleye on Fourtown. Thanks all! |
