The executives make the decision, the supervisors relay to their employees and find a way to implement, then the employees sometimes just have to plug their noses and do the work, even if they don't necessarily agree with the strategy (assuming no laws are being broken. That would obviously change things.)

" I have worked for the federal government for nearly 30 years firefighting. I was a little wheel retiring as a GS-09, we pawns took alot of heat for things that were way above our pay grade. We shrugged it off when the public got in our faces. I worked three years for the Superior NF in Isabella, when I first arrived there I took alot of heat, mostly from loggers, when I left I was buddies with almost everyone, they realized that I had little say and was just doing my job. I know I'm splitting hairs here Adam, but the Superior NF is under the Dept of Agriculture not the Interior Dept. The Dept of Agriculture who oversees the USFS was in my opinion a top heavy dept, managing everythig from food safety to farm programs, and beyond. The Interior Dept where I spent the majority of my time was more streamlined. I always felt (even as a pawn) that my voice had some clout in local district decisions at the Dept of the Interior, I felt I had little to no say in the Dept of Argiculture.

" Very well said, Most of the local foresters have less say than you or I often do. Bottom line is lets work together as overall the forest service and others have done to make it a better place. Life and changes has ups and downs a little corrections. Think of it in today's world. Here we are talking about an enjoyable recreational experience in today's world. We are very lucky. Note: So many people miss a opportunity to visit the BWCA in the winter, be it day trip or winter camping. So much fun. Permits are automatic.

Government employees have to start standing up to their superiors and say this won't work and is wrong. The people of the Northland where screaming this will not work and it didn't! Maybe next time? These private contractors and government officials many times have a very cozy relationship. Many times the contracts are attached as pork in a bill as a favor to a senator or congress person. Whos pays the bill? Us or the contractor. This cost the businesses of Northern Minnesota a lot of time and Money!!! Many people have already switched their plans from a bwca trip to another location.
