My apologies to the original poster.

I still have not got a refund from my 1st attempt at getting a permit. I didn't get the permits I was trying for in the second selling of permits.

Early February you alerted them to the problem? All permits made in January were cancelled. Permits did not go back up for reservation until March 4th. You might have been caught up along with everyone else in the January issue.

Other then the two brothers today, there has not been a report from anyone that their permits booked March 4th or after were cancelled.

So I am skeptical."

Yes, I also received a call from Recreation.gov on the 16th from a lady saying our original reservation did not go through and that they would be refunding my initial fee and charging me a new one. I was skeptical at first, but she knew all the details of our reservation including names of the people in our party, number of canoes and where we were picking up the permit. So I got a new reservation made over the phone and after I hung up with her I received a new confirmation email from recreation.gov with the new details.

I wasn't real surprised by this development because after I made my reservation in March, I wasn't able to go into the system and edit my permit pickup location. I called them back then and they said everything was good but I knew something was wrong. I suspect that there are a lot of other reservations out there where people think they have it but in the system its not all so good. I think we'll be hearing more about this situation and the new system in the next few months.

I meant early March, right after the March 4th roll-out. This has nothing to do with the January fiasco. My fault on saying February when I meant March. Not flawless when permits are being cancelled. Not flawless if they don't cancel the excess permits and too many groups show up on the same day.

ddbb22ddbb22, jiujitsubob, et al:
The examples of quota number discrepancies which you cite re Mudro and Bower Trout (and others) were well documented. The thing is, those problems were all part of the SNAFU on January 30th. Voided permits and credit card refunds put us all back to Square One. The new roll-out on March 4 -- and the month and a half since -- has been as close to flawless as one could hope.

jiujitsubob: "We ended up moving our entry date and got our new reservations. Hopefully the refund check shows up."

You are waiting for a check? Can't they just refund it back to your credit card?

6/6 EP 30
minnmike 04/17/2019 07:23PM
What EP and date are your permits for?
jiujitsubob 04/17/2019 07:19PM
we also got communication via email from rec.gov.
we split our party into 2 groups and will be camping in two separate sites.
jiujitsubob 04/17/2019 07:08PM
that flies in the face of 'first come first served"
curious if not going through an oufitter is hurting us
ddbb22ddbb22 04/17/2019 07:02PM
It's a huge mistake. And the worst part is they are cancelling the permits made the earliest. So in my Bower Trout example, the permit made at 9:05am on the first day was cancelled and the permit made at 11:20am still stands.
thegildedgopher 04/17/2019 06:59PM
Ddbb22: I didn’t dismiss anything, I questioned the wisdom of making a second reservation for an EP when you knew it would be pushing that EP over the quota, and you already had a reservation confirmed.

To the original poster — the max group size is 9 and that doesn’t apply only at camp sites but at any time in the entire parkl. Perhaps the FS saw the common last name on the permits and assumed you’d be in violation? I don’t claim to be an expert, just thinking through the possibilities before hanging the USFS out to dry.

If you receive a phone call like this, a good way to ensure it’s not some scam is to request official communication in writing.
jiujitsubob 04/17/2019 06:57PM
You would think they could verify who were the first to register for the permits. like i said before i checked their site well after ours were secured and it showed there were still sites available. it seems like a mistake on their end.
ddbb22ddbb22 04/17/2019 06:51PM
Not bullshit. I tried to explain this problem 6 weeks ago in my first ever post, but theguildedgopher dismissed what i said so I decided not to spend time explaining the situation. But now I will try again. The main point is that rec.gov issued more permits than the maximum for an entry point in a day. So if you have a Mudro permit, there might be 10 permits out there for that day instead of the maximum of 6. In my original post there were multiple permits on one day for Bower Trout (I know, tough to believe multiple people wanted Bower Trout). So rec.gov knows there is a problem because I alerted them to it in early February. They are now starting to tell people that their permit is not valid but they are not disclosing that it is because on opening day their computers allowed too many permits. I don't know how widespread this is, I just know there is a potentially big problem. If somebody wants me to verify I'm real I will.
jiujitsubob 04/17/2019 06:42PM
we have 11 people going on the trip. had to split into two camps
thegildedgopher 04/17/2019 06:39PM
Why did you get two permits for the same EP on the same day?
jiujitsubob 04/17/2019 06:22PM
Not sure why my last post got lock an "appeared to be bullshit". Noel is my brother and we both posted on here at about the same time after we both received a call from someone at recreation.gov saying our entry permits were not valid.

Is it possible we are being scammed somehow? We have two permits for the same entry point on the same day and they are telling us that we have to choose a new day and or entry point.
