12/12/2019 11:21PM I appreciate the trips! I like the idea of the Kawisiwishi trip. We're coming from Iowa, would there be any EP's a little closer to Ely? Also on Crocodile, are there smallmouth? |

12/11/2019 08:45AM Two Suggestions: Entry 54 - Seagull to Ogishkemuncie. Ogishkemnuncie is a fishing destination lake. Day tripping to South Arm of Knife, and Eddy Falls to the northwest or southeast to Mueller Falls, and Gabimichigami. Get a tow to the end of Three Mile Island to speed your way or just paddle it. None of the portages are hard. Navigation in the Islands on the east end of Seagull can get you turned around, but other than that it is an easy paddle. Entry 37 - Kawishiwi Lake to Lake Polly. Polley is also a fishing destination lake. Day Tripping is north to Koma and Malberg or east along the Phoebe River to Hazel. This route will provide you with a nice variety of paddling along rivers and lakes of smaller size. You will pass through the very eastern tip of the Pagami Creek Fire recovery zone. The fire zone ends at the south end of Polly. Be prepared to pull over beaver dams along the Kawishiwi River. A couple of the portages on the maps no longer are necessary and a couple of big beaver dams have very short portages around them. |

12/10/2019 09:38PM Small lakes, easy portages, good multi species fishing, a few daytrip options, not real busy, pretty area: Homer to Vern 35-40 minute paddle to a moderately challenging 100+ rod portage with some elevation gain. Dead end lake so little traffic. Permit is 66 Crocodile River even though you enter at East Bearskin...must stay all nights on Crocodile. Excellent, almost easy walleye fishing, jumbo perch some pike. Remote area for being so close to entry. Opportunities for some pretty cool exploration down the crocodile river: Crocodile Lake |

12/10/2019 07:56PM Hey guys, I've been on 5-6 Boundary Waters trips in the past ten years or so with my dad (mostly to Crooked Lake). I want to put together a 4-day trip in July with some buddies and have never planned one. It would be three of us and the two of them have no camping experience. My dad has always enjoyed the camping aspect vs fishing so we've always moved campsites and been mobile the whole time. I like to camp as a means to fish on these trips. I'd like to plan a route that has good fishing where we could essentially basecamp by early to mid-afternoon day one and fish around the main lake or portage to neighboring lakes. We're all in our late 20s / early 30s, so a rough portage or two wouldn't be the end of the world. I'd greatly appreciate any information on recommended loops from anyone! |
