We went into Lynx Lake on June 13, 2020. First night found 4 of the campsites taken but stayed at the last one before the portage into Heritage, #65 on the map. Within two days we had the lake to ourselves from Monday noon until Thursday evening. Lynx was a good size lake and with being to paddle through from Little Shell you could always go back there to fish. Did not take the portage into Ruby, (kind of a long one for a day trip) but Yodeler was another one. Not a huge site, two smaller tent pads, ours was a 10 by 10 tent and it fit snug on the more open pad. Second pad served as our "lower living room" with a tarp to get us out of the wind and rain if needed. Site is on a point, nice breezes kept most of the bugs away all week. Portage into Heritage was not bad for a day trip of Pike fishing and lunch. This site sits in a bay, good small mouth fishing. While there we saw a Moose walk through the bay, a local mouse came out at dinner time, even a hummingbird made a few visits, an Eagle would do a few fly bys on afternoons, a pair of loons, AND NO BEARS!! Even had a snapping turtle in our site one morning laying her eggs in between the granite of the point.

LindenTree: "Try base camping on Lynx or Oyster Lakes. Can't answer about bugs."

Agree with this.

As for bears...Shell Lake definitely has a reputation, but I'm not sure about this year. Ask an outfitter or the forest service before going in.

Hi all! I have to down-size a trip, and am looking for recommendations for great campsites about one day in from LIS North entry point. Appreciate ideas.

While I'm at it, (1) how's the bugs? and (2) any reports of 'problem' bears in that area? (I ask bec. I've heard of garbage at campsites due to uptick in [novice?] BW campers)

Thanks!
