TB--you have really been given a gift: time and experiences with your daughter that many of us can only envy.

My sons have joined me on a few BWCA trips and we did enjoy the time but it was when they were significantly older. Now they are living their own lives and while us canoe tripping together again may happen, it will be tougher and tougher to do. If it does occur, travelling with them as adults or with their "new" family will be a totally different experience.

Keep making and cherish these memories with your daughter!

The trip and report are a winna, winna, chicken strip dinna!

TB - I've read enough of your trip reports that it almost feels like I've seen Aurora grow up in front of my eyes. What a lucky girl, and what a great job you've done introducing her to the wilderness, which she clearly loves and will be a part of her forever. Cheers!

Thank you..

Yes, while it is not expansive, nor would I give it an overall high rating, that site really does give you a true sense of privacy. It certainly isn't the best site on the lake but, I would target it again if I'm traveling with a small group. Duncan is certainly one of the busiest paddle only EP's; and being back there you are mostly oblivious to that fact.

Thanks for another great trip report. I think you should compile your reports some day for a book, it would be a great read for people that want to go to the BWCA or relive some of there adventures. You do a great job with your reports. I paddled around Duncan on August 5th with my wife, and we spent a considerable time looking for that campsite you stayed on. the MacKenzie map has it located on the west side of the point. Not easy to find, but found. It looks like that site is almost isolated from the rest of the lake and that back bay was beautiful.

Thank you for this outstanding trip report. I base camped with my wife and two 10 year olds at Duncan's peninsula campsite starting the day you left (in fact, I'm pretty sure we're the family of four you mention waiting on at the West Bearskin to HJ portage....thanks again for your grace and patience with our somewhat bumbling efforts!).

Your detailed report inspires me to return to the area for a longer visit and more adventurous day trips. Congrats on what appears to have been a memorable trip for both you and your daughter.

Someday: "Not sure why you had to tarnish your wonderful trip report with that crap about masks. Unfortunate :("

As in all my reports, I try to give (at least) some idea of what I think and feel about what's encountered along the way. Whether people agree that eating with a mask on is near impossible, or not, is their prerogative. I felt it was/is and said so. Just like I said the flies were bothersome, or the water was warm. ( As I'd like to look back years from now and recall those feelings etc. and revisit them filtered by time.)

Thanks for taking the time to read the report. I hope you were able to take something positive from it.

Another great report and trip. I always enjoy reading your reports and appreciate you continuing to take the next generation of kids out. I cherish my trips with my kids and hope they one day look back at my reports as they plan their own adventures!

straighthairedcurly: "So much fun to see how much Aurora is growing up each year. Sounds like she is really developing that "can do" spirit. I loved the account of all your day trips. I have spent a lot of time in this area when working on West Bearskin Lake, but I have yet to visit Partridge or Moss. My brother is heading to that area this week with his teenage daughter."

Thank you.

Partridge takes a little work to get to but, it seems to be a very quiet and secluded lake. Considering how busy Duncan can be, it was nice to have a backdoor to be able to 'get away' from the crowds so quickly.

This was my first visit to Moss; and I haven't personally heard of a lot of folks heading there but, considering how good of shape the portage trail was in, it stands to reason that it must have a decent number of somewhat regular visitors.

Such a great trip report! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I had my map pulled up while reading the report, so I could really visualize where you guys tripped around to.

Super fun read.

Great report and such wonderful memories being created! I love the shot of the swan swimming alongside the canoe. After 45 trips up there, I have never done this immediate area... I need to remedy that :-)
Thanks for sharing... the report was well written and photographed!

TuscaroraBorealis: "TrailZen: "What a great report! At first I'm thinking Aurora's about the same age as our daughter on her first trip, then on your Day 3 page is the 'baby shot' of her in the hammock with you! I'm wishing you many more father-daughter trips...

Thank you!

For the record, Aurora is 9. However, I included a 'vintage photo (us in the hammock) from her 1st trip when she was just a baby.

Another old one... "

This shot is precious! She met the 'keeper' requirement on the Gander Mountain scale!! Lucky girl, lucky dad!

Thank you for sharing this excellently written report and so glad you had such a wonderful trip! We did a long memorial weekend trip on Duncan about 15 years ago with a group of colleagues visiting Minnesota from Malaysia and this brought back many memories of that trip. In many ways the wonder your Daughter displayed reminded me of some of the reactions of these grown men when we say the waterfalls and BRT overlook!
