Have you done the BWCA in winter? If so, where?

The beauty of winter camping in the BWCA is you can go a fairly short distance and still feel pretty isolated.

I started off with a couple trips to Eagle Mountain. It’s a great trail in and a fun hike up to the top. Can’t say much for the fishing, but a good destination. I’ve also gone in is Round Lake several times. I’ve camped on Brant and been all alone for a week, day tripped to Gillis or Bat to fish, and gone up to Blue Snow when feeling ambitious. The route into Tuscarora gets a fair amount of traffic, probably due to the pretty reliably cooperative Lakers there.

If you haven't done so already? Check out the winter camping forum . Most especially the

Winter access entry points thread.

Where are you planning to go? BWCA east or west? Or other area altogether? Most of my winter camping is in the UP and northern WI with a only a handful of BWCA trips.

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great day. I’m planning a winter trip but I’d like to hear what some of your favorite winter camping lakes/routes are, and the pros and cons. I’d like to try somewhere new and I’m willing to travel anywhere. I am an experienced winter camper. Thanks!
