06/25/2022 10:26PM Others have already given you the straight scoop and shown you the great photo ops for this border route. I'll just add that when you do the Height of Land portage between North and South Lakes, the grandkids need to undergo the initiation rite as voyageurs...sprinkle them with water using a cedar bough (just don't cut any live ones, of course). There was also rum involved in the original initiations, but you might want to just save that for the adults :) Have a great trip...it is beautiful area! One note, make sure you get a good weather report in terms of wind. This year has been especially windy up there and Gunflint is highly susceptible to high winds. I also tried to paddle South last Tuesday (day trip from Rose to see the Height of Land portage) and I had to turn back after trying to cross South...brutal. Leave time in your schedule to have the potential of at least one day where you are wind bound. |

06/25/2022 12:17PM Put your right foot in and your left foot out and do the Hokie-Pokie, all legal ,just don't have a hot-dog feed. Leave some of those big small mouths in South and Rose. |

06/24/2022 02:39PM My BWCA trip this year includes portages between Gunflint Lake and Rose Lake. My three grandkids have never been out of the country and would like to at least touch Canada. Are any of the portages along this way on the Canadian Side? I am fully aware that it's legal and treaty approved to use these portages if in Canada. |
