08/04/2024 08:36AMLarryNC: "Has anyone done the Wawiag river lately? We paddled the Waiwag downstream about 5 weeks ago. The water was incredibly high and there was a strong current. I don’t think paddling upstream at that point would have been feasible given the distance you’d have to cover. But if water levels are back down a bit then maybe you could? I’d call the Quetico ranger HQ. They gave us really good insight into the river conditions when I called up there a few days before trip. |

08/02/2024 07:08PM I'm on Batchewaung now. Water levels are higher than in the last four years for this time. If you're going to attempt it, now is the time. Have fun! |

08/02/2024 02:02PM Of course! We became interested in doing the Wawiag last year when we ran into a group who had just done it -- they were starry eyed and said it was a must. Very little travelled and a great chance to see wildlife. Special Native American grounds. |

08/02/2024 01:06PM Larry, let us know how this works--your route proposal has us reconsidering our trip. Thanks! TZ |

08/02/2024 12:53PM Thanks TZ, based on your response we may consider going upstream on the Wawiag. Hope you have a great trip too. Where are you headed this year? Has anyone done Kenny lake to Munro Lake? |

08/01/2024 08:43PM Hey, Larry-- We haven't done the Wawiag in years, and when we did it was from Cache Bay Ranger Station, through Saganagons, then up the park's east boundary to Cullen, Munro, and Mack. From Mack to Kawa Bay (much of which is now day use only) via Mack Creek and Wawiag, was an "all day sucker" downstream, so I'd expect it to be a bit longer paddling against the mild current. The Wawiag is also day use only now. Sorry to hear about the route changes required by rescheduling--hope the trip is a great one! We're heading up later this month. Safe travels. TZ |

08/01/2024 08:18PM Has anyone done the Wawiag river lately? My wife and I are leaving this Monday 8/5, Kahshapiwi entry from PP, planning a clockwise loop through Trant/Woodside/Reid to the northern tip of Agnes, then either Murdoch or Bird to Kawnipi. We were planning to take the little river from Kenny up to Mack to Wawiag and then back down Kawnipi to the falls chain. This would involve repeating a section of Kawnipi and Atkins bay. Is it possible to do the Wawiag upstream, i.e. a clockwise loop from Kawnipi to Wawiag to Mack to Kenny? Any thoughts on this trip much appreciated, as we have had to make last minute changes to our itinerary -- we had a Carp entry for an earlier date, but had to take Kahshapiwi when we rescheduled due to a death in the family. |
