Of course both Saganaga and Seagull are wonderful lakes with all the species. If you are not up to paddling distances like you would on Saganaga you could hire a tow to take you out in the morning and pick you up at the end of the day. You would only be paddling in the desired area to fish. I'm certain the tow operator could suggest good areas to focus your efforts as well.

Round Lake by Tuscarora Lodge had excellent smallmouth fishing when we were there a couple years ago. Jigged around downed trees near shore. No portaging, and it's outside the BW so no permit needed.

You don’t mention the capabilities of your trip partner. Can he manage rocky and uneven portages, portages with elevation, landing s full of boulders requiring balance….

There might be some areas to avoid if there are limitations

Easy day trip into Crocodile Lake if you want to have a walleye dinner. Lots of eaters.

Portage into Daniels for the day to fish for trout. On another day, portage into Duncan and go visit Rose Falls.

In addition to my original message, I will be taking my canoe. I can portage carrying a canoe and small pack, but want to stick to single portaging. I probably would not consider hiring a guide.

So are you fishing from canoes or motor boats, renting or bringing your own, any interest in hiring a guide for a day, will there be portaging on your day trips, how difficult or strenuous can your day trips be…

Hoping for some guidance. My annual spring BWCA trip with a close friend took a slight turn. Instead of going to the BWCA, we are instead staying at Trail Center Lodge the second week of June. Trip partner had some serious health issues hit and he decided it would be better to stay in a cabin. My fall solo BWCA trip is scheduled and I did get the permit I wanted.

My question: I know it can be guarded, but does anyone care to share any decent lakes to fish on the Gunflint Trail? As mentioned, we will be up along the Gunflint Trail the 2nd week of June.
