Can't speak for the Fenske campground host this summer, but in the past the host has let us pitch a tent in the open field at the campground when all the sites were full. Note that Fenske also has 5 first come, first served sites that do not require a 2 night stay as far as I know.

There are opportunities for dispersed camping on Forest Service land on the Echo and even the North Grassy Road (road to Mudro). There is a camp a hundred yards in from the junction of the Echo and the North Arm road (follow the ski trail on the NW side of the North Arm Road) that is long established. There is a pull out camp (less established) on one of the roads that branch off from the N. Grassy Road. There is also a plat a mile from the Echo on the Grassy Road, the entirety of which was purchased by the Nature Conservancy- you could probably squat on one of the lots and no one would notice.

My apologies, I should have been more specific. We prefer to camp somewhere the night before the launch. Something like the Fenske campground is what I am looking for. It requires a two night stay over the weekend. Insight on any others would be appreciated. Thanks!

There is a campsite on Picket Lake. Also a spot to camp adjacent to the parking lot. A short road (just past the latrine) leads to a spot on Picket Lake.

Fenske Lake Campground is on the Echo Trail right before you turn off to go to Mudro.

Two of us plan to enter at Mudro in late August. Our preference is to camp near the entry point. There are two of us. We prefer to hammock but can pitch a tent that night if need be. Does anyone have any insight as to where we can camp within 20-30 minutes (or less) of the entry point?
