That looked like an awesome adventure. Thanks for sharing.

Just read this report for the first time. Very impressed by the two of you, your photography and the trip itself. I've paddled some of the Lower Wisconsin and enjoyed it very much. A definite trip on the do-again list!

Great report! Thanks.

What a great adventure. My friend and are contemplating paddling the Crow Wing River in MN. Hope, skip and paddle compared to your trip.
Thanks so much for sharing. Great photos. Love the forays in civilization for meals and showers.

Great adventure! Thank you for sharing. We live in WI and I've been eyeing some rivers to paddle.

I too enjoyed you trip report. I've paddled the upper Wisconsin north of Rhinelander many times and wondered what it would be like to paddle the entire river.

Thanks for sharing!

I very much enjoyed reading your trip report and the pictures were excellent.

Long ago a friend and I paddled the Rock River from around Jefferson, WI. to Dixon, Il. and we had a great time.

My friend lives in Madison and for the past several years he's been talking about paddling the Wisconsin River. After reading your report I might have to grab him and his kids and make it happen.

Excellent report and a fun trip. I would like to do it someday.

Am escaping cabin fever by reading trip reports today.

When I saw the title I thought what the heck but after I read it through it would rival any north woods adventure I have had. Actually, more so when considering miles traveled and portages (man made or natural). I live near Portage so have canoed in the Dells through Lake WI areas. We went through the Upper Dells area in a late May trip and while the scenery is top notch the boat traffic was crazy and dangerous. In some of those narrow areas the large waves from commercial boats keep rebounding off the sides back and forth and you get "hit" a number of times. My trip partner and I have tossed a number of "local" trip ideas around but never something as adventurous as this. We've done parts of the Fox River and hope to complete that one someday. My hat is off to you two for your accomplishment, the neat report, and fantastic pictures to help us along the way. Great job!

I really enjoyed your pictures and reading of your river trip!

Awesome adventure. I loved the shot of the canoe on the sand beach under the trees. Then the next pic is of a large bird nest with two large birds sitting in the tree. Were these ospreys? And loved the pics of "Fern Island". All you needed were dinosaurs.

That sand bar camping in the lower river took me back to when I was 12 years old and during a two week long summer camp we canoed and camped along there for three days. I almost drowned and had to be saved by a counselor, but that's another story... My main memory is of being drenched by a cold rain in a stinky two man canvas pup tent with mosquitos everywhere.

I really enjoyed reading and seeing all the pics. It's nice to see people following through with their dreams. Thanks for posting!

WOW! Fantastic journey. You ladies Rock! I loved all the photos, but that fern island shot is amazing. I've never seen anything like that. Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventure.

Nice report! Loved the pictures. I lived in Stevens Point for 12 yrs. and always wanted to do this trip, you got me thinking even harder about it.

Wow, that's a cool, long trip and one I've wanted to take. I've done the Mississippi a couple times, as well as the Ohio and some other longish rivers, so if you're thinking of doing the Mississippi, contact me if you want some info. Those were great photos. Good eye!

If you don't contact me and still do the Mississippi, STOP at Baton Rogue. Cancer Alley begins there and it'll make the boat traffic at the Dells seem like the boat traffic in the Quetico.

Nice trip! Nice trip report!

Great adventure and great report. I spent a lot of weekends years ago between the WI stretch that runs from Stevens Point down to Merrimac - brought back nice memories. And congrats on your accomplishment!!!

Wow, what an enjoyable report! Having paddled some of the Wisconsin and having lived in the Wausau/Schofield area, some of it was familiar to me. The dam is gone in Brokaw? I remember picnicing in that area and at Council Grounds in Merril. Thanks for sharing!

What an impressive trip and what a great trip report! I loved the photos and succinct storyline.

Thanks for sharing! I kinda like that idea of stopping at civilization for food, drink, bed, and shower at times!
Unas10 05/18/2012 04:19AM
I like the way you "live off the land" as you pass through; Hardee's, Culver's, ball park brats(you werte fortunate they were in season).

Awesome report! I've been thinking about the entire Wisconsin lately so your post is very timely. Someday I'll do this, it's on the bucket list.
candyj 05/17/2012 10:13PM
Yes, going through the Dells in the off season would certainly be more enjoyable than August. We enjoyed the upper Wisconsin more so than the lower Wisconsin. I know many who rave about the last 92 miles of the river, but for me, going through the narrow, winding parts just suits me more and I am more into going over beaver dams than people dams.

Wow, what a cool adventure. I don't think I'll ever paddle the entire Wisconsin River, but I saw some spots in there that would definitely be worth a trip - very different from the BW.

So do you think if you went through the Dells in May or October you could avoid the other boats?

Mort 05/17/2012 08:35PM
Excellent trip report! I enjoyed it very much. It brought back a lot of memories of trips I've taken down the WI. A wonderful and enjoyable river to travel on with many different looks and adventures.
