After I returned from my recent trip to Seagull, and finding the picto site, I wanted to know more about it, which led me to this thread. I know the OP personally, and decided to answer his original question. Up to now it remained unanswered.

Just want to give a shout out to the resurrection of a 15+ year old thread. That’s the longest thread hibernation that I can recall on this site.

What do you think they are depicting? Moose - or???"

I'm not sure but it looks like some kind of animal to me"

Caribou?
"

Furtmans book says "indistinct" pictographs on Seagull.

I saw those earlier this summer and pointed them out to my wife. They could be easily missed even if you knew they were there. I was scanning the rocks for the red ochre to find them.

tony: "I just got back from my Seagull to Gabimichigami trip. I spent about an hour looking but could not find the pictographs described in Furtmans book. I talked to one of the outfitters on Seagull Lake and they did not believe there were pictos in that area. They said that several other people have tried to find them without any luck. It is possible that they were there at one time and mother nature had erased them. It is a rather large cliff and is full of moss and lichens so the pictos could be covered up. If anyone has found the pictographs I would like to here about it."

I found these on the palisades just above the waterline. It definitely is the red ochre used

I was unable to find them from Furtmans directions. At that time I had never seen any picto's before, and at times they can be hard to see... I've found many since, just have never been back to Seagull to look with a "trained eye".

If you look, take your time.

Was wondering if anyone has taken the time to find the pictographs on Seagull lake. There was mention of them in Michael furtmans book [Magic On The Rocks]. It didn't give much detail of what the pictographs were and only a general location of them. Are they worth trying to find? I saw the ones at Hegman Lake several years ago and thought they were really cool. Hard to imagine that the art work painted on the rocks could last so long exposed to all the elements. It would be neat to know what the artist was trying to say in their paintings.
