Did this entry last year. Probably 7/8 of a mile hike from the drop off to the entry. All but the last 50-100 yards is pretty easy with a good trail. Once on the river (more of a creek at the beginning), all portages (IIRC 3 of them) are on the right side of the river. We enjoyed this entry as there is solitude with only 1 entry per day. After a few hours, we were way ready to exit and get into some different water.

I don't have my maps in front of me, but the portage is definitely more to the tune of 250-300 rods rather than 160. I believe some maps show the portage starting at the wilderness boundary but I believe it starts outside the wilderness boundary. However, the first portion of the portage is along an old road or railroad bed and is wide and flat. The last third or so is more like a normal portage with some elevation but I don't remember it being bad, just long.

It's a neat entry. Long carry to a tiny landing on the creek which is quite narrow at that point. The first bit of paddling winds back and forth and is narrow with a lot of vegetation on the shore. A neat way to enter, IMO. We did not have to portage again along the river/creek to Bald Eagle.

I'm wondering if someone can give me info on the Snake River portages. Online maps say the first portage is 160 rods, but I've read some reports that say 200 to 280. Heading in there in a few weeks and would like to know what to expect!
