On Tuesday I head up to Ely (spending the night at Williams and Hall), and on Wednesday I start my Hunter's Island trip! Excited to be back on the water, and this will be my longest solo. Pretty much everything is ready for the trip save some jerky that is still in process, and I need to make a run to REI tomorrow to pick up some Permathrin. Some new twists for me on this trip are:

*Using a Lean Plus 1 (no tarp, tent nor bug house)
*Leaving the hatchet at home (rarely ever use it)
*All Mountain House food (already looking forward to the Ely Steakhouse)
*Very small tackle box (do not fish much when alone)

I am taking 14 days to enjoy this route, and it could not come at a better time.

Enjoy yourself. I still would pack a small tarp for over the sitting area. You're bound to get rain in 14 days. Do up a report if you can!

Enjoy your trip! I'm envious. What's your longest solo to date?

I am going to use the Lean as a tarp/tent combo. See how it goes...

10 days. Cut short due to tent failure.

I have contemplated doing this for long trips, so will be interested to hear about it.

Just got back......take a bug net of some type. Black flies were hideous (although the recent heat may knock them down) and skeets were one step away from hideous (heat may kick them up).....just sayin'

Thanks. Will pack the bug box-same one you have! Weighs nothing and takes up virtually no space. Appreciate the head's up!

Have a great trip!! Awesome way to celebrate the end of another school year. I'm sure Jan will be right there with you.

Will ya be in ely by supper time Tuesday? I could make a day of it and be there. Man, it's a real soaker today. That should bring the bugs out for you... haha.
On my forty day trip I took both my lean and my BA Copper spur on the first leg. I oped for the little tent the rest of the trip when I shed the extras. Since I go back and forth. I'd have for sure gone with the lean if I had the smaller one... the lean 1.

I should be in Ely by 3; I will give you a call in the next day or two. Hope you are on the mend, Ben!

Im a Walleye fisherman at heart so I was hellbent on finding a good school to slip bobber fish and could NOT make it happen. I coulda put more time in I guess but knowing your watching a lifeless Bobber when theres fish to be caught elsewhere messes with your head. I didn't take a fish finder for bottom and depth I.D. which dropped my confidence lower even though I was fishing what I thought were good areas. Always gotta have a goal for next time though right!

I have no place specific in mind at this time. What do you think? Feel free to call or text me at 612.965.9657. Would be a blast to have a meal with some board members!!

The only places in Ely where I've eaten are the Chocolate Moose and the Boat House. Either one or someplace else would work for me. I should get into town by mid afternoon. I'll call you when I arrive.

Ben, as always, it was great seeing you, and thanks for the killer deal on the paddle! Bill, a pleasure to meet you and Scott, and I hope your trip is fun, safe and memorable.

I am at Williams and Hall right now, and they have Wi-Fi! Very grey evening here, and storms are supposed to join us again later tonight and tomorrow.

I may see you Friday on the FC but won't know if I can leave tomorrow until later tonight -- work don't you know. You won't get this because you are already on the water but I'll try to contact you via your Delorme.

Trip was a success, although it was cold, wet and windy. I did break my rod on day one, so no fishing. That was okay as I normally do not fish much when alone, and it sealed the deal for my next solo: no fishing gear. I also never used my hatchet, so that will also stay home the next time. The Lean was a smash, although if it were not I could see how ventilation may be an issue and the thing would get real warm. Loved the space it provided!

well done!

Loved it! I may sew in a different screen as it let the no-see-ums in and they feasted on my forehead. Other than that, I really liked it! Fun to pitch and so, so roomy.

I don't fish much but do carry a collapsible fishing pole with a very small tackle box. (about the size of a large Cell Phone, fatter and opens on two sides).
I've had the fishing pole for 21 years now.
