The cornbread thread and Jiffy Mix's discontinuation of their just add water frosting mixes sent me looking for other frosting mixes and led me to recipies with powdered butter. I havent seen it discussed here. Anyone use this camping? I dont imagine it works for frying but for spreads and recipes that call for butter?

Used to get some for use in bread recipes. Didn't use it for anything else.

I have a can of it, but don't want to open until I know I'll use it.

Good to wait. We generally were forced to buy more than needed and even in the freezer I think it only lasts about a year. So some was wasted. But we had fresh bread in the BW.

Here’s a link that churns butter from powdered milk.
You won’t have a food processor but a nalgene with a honey spoon inside could shake up some butter for you.

Interesting but it requires oil, so might as well carry butter.
Thanks though.

Use ghee instead.

Bill,

You've been around as long as me so you probably already know this. Use clarified butter.

Melt butter and skim the fat off the top. Let it harden again. Lasts much longer than 'regular' butter.

You know, when I say butter, I am only thinking ghee/clarified butter. Just takes a bit for frosting and the discontinued Jiffy mix was so light in weight. On the other hand, baking cakes and frosting them in the wilderness might be a questionable practice on other terms.
