Last year my son and I entered Quetico from Beaverhouse first week in June, spent 4 nights on Quetico , spent 2 nights on cirrus on the way out. Fishing was great, but I would like to do a bit more traveling. Fishing would still be our main objective. It looks like there are several routes possible starting and ending on Beaverhouse.

Is there anywhere a fishing-crazy 13 year old will love or hate? I would like to stick to the Beaverhouse entry since it's closest to home. Just looking for a few ideas.

Hard to beat Jean lake. Lots of good fishing there and back also.

How long do you plan to be out, and how much traveling do you want to do?

As previously mentioned, Jean is a GREAT lake. If you like walleyes and pike, you can head to Badwater, too.

I’m thinking we will do some where in the 7-10 day range.
Trout and bass would be our main focus but we don’t discriminate!
Last year he wasn’t real fond of traveling so I don’t want to push him too hard.

As others have mentioned go over to Jean lake. The portage to Conk and the one to Jean are both short and easy.

Jean looks like it might be the ticket. Tell me about the fishing.

It's a big, clear lake. I had luck there fishing smallies in the "typical" spots -- anywhere I could find small rocks/gravel/basketball-sized boulders. Lake trout were caught randomly trolling between locations. Pike in pikey places with weeds (and randomly trolling for lake trout, too).

You probably can figure this out, but Quetico Lake can be a monster with a west wind. Depending on your time frame, the paddle from Jean to Beaverhouse can be pretty unpleasant in a bad wind, so if you're on a tight schedule, plan accordingly.

Arrrrgh..........what's the good sized lake a short portage from Jean? Really liked the lake complete with 5 star site on the point of an island. Hooked what I think was a pike right at dark which towed my boat.......broke my heart when it broke / cut my line. Caught several walleye in a few hours time.

Didn't fish Jean. Clear water and looks to be very susceptible to wind. Sounds like folks like it however.

Yep, I'm guessing Burntside. If so, that *is* a nice site MT's talking about. :)

Site MT is hard to get on Burntside. I'd stick to Jean but plan on staying 2 nites or so at 2 different camps. 1) up by the narrows or even further towards Little Jean, 2) down closer to Ivy Island. Killer SMB lake(!!) but has NP and LT too. Far east end of Quetico Lake is worth fishing also. PM me closer to your trip date if you want more info... --Goose
