Looking for human to join my pup and I on a short spring trip. Travel to Ely morning of May 23 and home Monday May 28. Traveling trip or base camp, I don't care. I've got all necessary equipment all you need is yourself and personal gear.
Money can buy a pretty good dog but it can't buy the wag of her tail.

I usually go right about that time. And generally have trouble finding a trip-mate. If it turns into 3 or more i would be interested. ( wife would be leery of me going with a woman alone) I have a solo canoe. I will watch this thread.
Without the bad times, the good times wouldn't seem so good.

Sounds good. If it makes you feel better, my trip partners generally are married guys......no worries, that's one boundary I'd NEVER cross. That said I totally understand. I look forward to how this plays out.
Last spring I did a solo. Though I've done quite a few, I've found I prefer not going solo. lol

I have some interest, but cannot commit at this time. I have a solo canoe and hammock and can bring all my own stuff and food. If you don't mind, I will monitor your quest and if the group is not too large, let you know shortly before you go. I am open to base camp or moving, but would prefer some fishing time throughout.

Sounds good. Part if my needing a partner is the fact that I have a 17' Souris and would like more than paddle power. I've gone solo but it's not a canoe intended for such.

I am interested, I've been to the BWCA 3x. I have done end to ends & loops. I am from New York, so I'd be traveling 2 days to get to Ely. I like to travel daily or every other day & I prefer the bow. I dehydrate my own meals/make my own menus, have my own gear & stuff. I wet foot & portaging & like dogs. I've been this time of year, it's exciting because you can have any type of weather...even snow.

Send me an email if you're interested.

If you are available now, I can meet you in chat in trip planning...no one is in there right now. "Chat room" is located right under the flying moose under the top banner. Click on trip planning, that's it...
Okay, I subscribed to the thread so I get notification.

I'll follow as well. Similarly I'd be interested if I wasn't the only dude for the same reasons of peace of mind for my fiance (wife in a month).
I own a solo and tandem boat and typically hammock camp. The possibilities of this trip would be great as there's potential to leave a car at each end of a longer end to end trip.

Well here we go, 2 guys looking for a trip partner and not wanting to go solo with a woman. I don't want to get a large group going so maybe vaderstrom and chicagored should chat. :)

I have no problem with it but I'm going in a bit earlier in May. I'll probably be up in Ely anywhere from about the 10th to the 16th to go up Horse River into Crooked. Much will depend on ice out and work at this end. I've paddled that 17' SR solo before as well as an 18' Wenonah Champlain -- not a feat I'd like to repeat though! I usually take my solo Northwoods up there. I'll monitor this thread until we all get closer to open-water season.

Currently I have a trip partner possibility that I'm hoping to oan out if not I can look at altering my trip dates.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one to find the SR 17' as a bit of a challenge. :)

Maybe we could go opposite directions from Ely to the Gunflint?

Good to hear that the planning is working out. Let's all hope for an early ice-out!
