My son and I are looking for some trail suggestions for early to mid August. We will have 2-4 days to spend on the trail and want to stay in Mn. We have done IR and numerous segments of the SHT along with a week in the Big Horns so we have trail experience. We are looking at the Sioux-Hustler trail or the Angleworm trail. Are there any others that we should consider? Any trail info we should know about for this time of year?

Since no one else has chimed in yet, I'll add what I can. I'll start by saying that both the Angleworm and Sioux-Hustler are great trails and were in very good shape when I hiked them last year.

At 15 miles the Angleworm is a little short for more than two days in my opinion, but if wanted a very leisurely hike with more time in camp than hiking you could stretch it out.

I've hiked the Sioux-Hustler 3 times and I've always hiked the Sioux-Hustler it as a two day hike, but at my pace it is a very full two days. I intend to hike it again this year and may take a more leisurely approach this time, taking 3 days. We'll see. If I do take three days I'll hike the trail clockwise and grab a campsite on either Emerald or Shell the last day. The approach trail into the loop does not have any established campsites, so you need to account for this.

Other trails to consider would be the Kek, Snowbank and Border Route. All are nice trails, but only the Snowbank is a loop. The west side of the Kek and the Snowbank were both impacted by the 2016 blowdown. They have been cleared, but there is still a lot of evidence of the storm present.

Anyway, all nice trails no matter what you decide. Have a great hike!

I would agree that Angleworm is a little short for 2-4 days. The first time I hiked it, I did find a campsite and took some time to enjoy the lake. The 2nd time I didn't camp and just finished it and went into town for a beer.

I am thinking about hiking Snowbank as soon as the snow is gone. This will be my 3rd time around that lake. At 24 miles, this trail is a great 3 day hike.

I think I hiked the Sioux Hustler in 3 days, but the last day was 16 miles out because campsites were tough to find like HappyHuskies stated, and we were thirsty again. That trip was in June with 90* temps and high humidity. Dear flies all around our heads. We just wanted to get out of the woods at that point.

I would save the Kek and BRT until you have knocked off a couple other BWCA trails first. They are tougher than IR and especially the SHT, which is now a highway in my opinion.
