Sounds like a great first full experience in the BW. Always great to have some learning opportunities that don't cause too much pain and suffering. I am in the "no hammock" side of things but hubby and son love theirs. I end up with the tent to myself.

I love the descriptions of your dad rebuilding and improving the fire pits. I hope they all want to go again and you have many more family adventures.

Thanks, enjoyed your report. I always like the first trip ones - it takes me back to my own early experiences.
BTW, wondering if your screen name has anything to do with Pepperbox Wilderness?

Thanks for the report.

Leeches will without a doubt help your fishing success, I'd highly second your thought about taking them next time.

I also wouldn't give up on hammocks, maybe watch some YouTube videos, make sure they're hung correctly, and making sure others are lying in them correctly. They make not be for everybody but I'll never go back to sleeping on the ground, neither will my kids.

The pepperbox screenname actually comes from the darling pepperbox. I am not a gun person but have always thought derringers have a lot of history and particularly the pepperbox with all revolving barrels. Someday I may purchase one but not yet.

Fun report. Thanks for sharing your experiences on the trip. I look forward to learning something new for "next time" too.

Like boone I enjoy first timer reports for the same reason. Your in good company with the brings too much stuff crowd. We all cut back on what we bring but I think we just put it in another pack and bring it anyways, haha. Sounds like a fun family you have.

That's one heck of a portage to start off with!! Nothing wrong with doing a 1-1/2 carry either. That's the way me and my old paddle partner use to do it. Glad it went well for you and your crew. I liked the photo of the fire grate rocks your dad re-did. Any other photos of that? There are definitely a bunch of grates up there that could use an overhaul. I've adopted the practice of rebuilding one messed up fire pit per trip too.
