Got a Spyderco Bucshcrafter in trade that was pretty beat up. Handle was cracked, scandi grind was destroyed. Got the edge restored to an even 12 degrees, acid etched the knife, and jute wrapped the handle. I don't own any west system or decent epoxy so I tried the most expensive epoxy at Home Depot. They all had 5 minute set times so I tried it outside in the mid 20's. Didn't go so well and looks shiner than I had anticipated, but overall I am happy. Really like the jute wrap on the Wilderness.

Yes - the West System is water thin and soaks in rather than sits up on top.

You brush it on with one of those disposable paint brushes. Let it soak in for about 15 minutes, then using an old cotton T-shirt or similar cotton material, squeeze the knife and it soaks the top portion of epoxy out of it.
The handle gets really firm but doesn't have that plastic-ky feel or appearance to it.
