Whats the fishing really like on Ima? Seems like the reviews I've found are one extreme to the other. I'm a pretty serious fisherman so I know there are so many factors that come into play as to weather or not you catch fish and I'm sure some of the stuff I've read are from people who are not really that serious about fishing and didn't put much effort into it. I'd like to hear from someone who is a fisherman and has spent some time on the lake. I'm putting in at Snowbank the 3rd week of June and plan on going through Disappointment lake and then on into Ima. My daughter is 14 and this will be her first trip and although fishing is not the only reason for this trip we will be doing a good bit of it so we could travel on past Ima to Alworth, Hatchet or even Thomas if those lakes are better fishing options.

Put some time in on IMA and you will catch Lakers rather easily, rather shallow- even into June.(most years) I have spent most of time fishing the SW side of the lake near/along the submerged humps. No clue on walleyes as I go elsewhere for that. Thomas being one in the area.

Did a trip to Ima in late May 2014, and it wasn't the best. My canoe partner caught two really nice lake trout from our campsite, but the vast majority of our walleye were caught on Hatchet. Decided to leave Ima a day early and eventually ended up on Disappointment and it lived up to its name. It was a late spring that year and we never really figured out the fish patterns while we were there despite three plus days on Ima. Hope you have better luck. Beautiful area.

Nice looking lakers! Thanks for the info guys. I plan on getting to Ima on the first day and give the fishing a try morning of day 2, if no luck maybe pack up and move on to Thomas. Looks like it shouldnt be too difficult to get into Thomas from Ima.

Ima can be windy and with Thomas/Fraser being just a little further I think many decide to just keep going. I think the north shore of ima is very smooth rock and lacking structure. I have only trolled while paddling through but no luck on ima yet. Ima can be reached by lunch time if you have a good pace. Good luck!
Ps I just remembered picking up a walleye while trolling on ima between a couple islands (paddling hard into the wind) upon entering the main lake basin area. Hope that helps someone.

Went to Ima in early June and I didn't catch a fish. Everyone else in our party caught at least one lake trout on the lake and if I remember right we caught one walleye. We went ice fishing on Ima and everyone but me caught fish. Again we caught lake trout except for one and it was a 17 lb. northern.
I won't be going back to Ima to fish.

Went to Ima/thomas/fraser a couple years ago in late June.
We had terrible weather on Ima. Caught a few small lakers near the mid lake reefs. One of my buddies caught his PB walleye. 30". That was it for walleyes.
Thomas was slow for walleyes. There was a huge mayfly hatch. Ive never graphed more walleyes in my life. Couldnt get them to bite. Caught a couple 10lb lakers trolling spoons in 35FOW.
Fished Fraser in the rain 1 day and picked up a few nice 5-8lb lakers.
Headed back in late june again this year. Hopefully the weather will be better and no mayfly hatch. If the walleyes are biting i think it could be lights out on Thomas.
