Same color and weight/length. One answer only please ;)

I fish mostly openers so it's an easy choice for me, a 7" blk/gold original floating Rapala.

Mepps with a gold blade. Plain spinner. Size 4.

Jig with twister tail

I don't bring much so I have doubles of everything. If I could only take 1 lure it would be a #12 fire tiger HJ and I would use snap weights to get it to different depths.

I bring at least 2-#13 size Silver Rapalas. It will catch Pike, Walleye and Smallmouth Bass.

03/29/2019 07:46AM
Not counting soft plastics,it would have to be Reble Pop R in bone color. It is a smallmouth catching little dude. Pike aren’t opposed to killing it either.

It's easy to bring a bunch of vertical jigs with twister tails and it would be foolish to only bring one, so I'll say something else.

Lipless crankbait, probably firetiger. 1/4 to 1/2oz. They like to get snagged on rocks if you let them sink too far, but boy do they produce.

Rapala skitter pop. I loan them out to my buddies who have been known to check if there are any fish up in the trees on shore so I bring 4 or 5.

I think you need to make a clarification on soft plastics. If soft plastics count I would want at least 2 ZMAN ShadZ. If they don't count, I would say bullfrog magnum torpedo.

Two? Two would last me about two hours...if I were lucky.

i already knew your answer ;) but yes either or, hard or plastic , obviously 1 does not just bring in 1 or 2 plastics.

Bladebait. Great for putting walleye in the canoe, but will lose 3-4 in the rocks in a weeklong trip.

Rebel craw.

Everything else, if I lose it, just skip to something similar in the tackle box.

Black/Silver no. 7 shad rap. I never fish without it. Caught many walleye, smallies, and Pike. I hope to add Lake Trout this year.

Thanks to you, Shock, the F18. I kind of thought it was a joke but tried it one year and caught my largest wilderness walleye on it. Now I take 3 or 4. Fun to try different colors sometimes.

Original rapala floater in gold or silver (size 9-13). Color would depend on the the stain of the water.

At least for early (May/June cusp) trips - 1/4 oz chartreuse double-bladed (preferably Indiana blades) spinner bait.

If I took this literally and truly had to choose 1, I would bring a black Jig with white twister tails.

Assuming jigs are a boring answer for this question, I would bring a Rapala original shad in silver.

You should try going bigger with the 3/8oz BooYah chartreuse GLOW blade spinner.

Mike, my mind is sure open, but the size/weight (and blade type) speaks to how, and how fast I tend to fish that lure that time of year. I like to "burn" it just beneath the surface to where the blades leave a bulge in the surface. A heavier lure, or willow leaf blades make me have to retrieve it faster than I'd like to get that effect. Colorado blades make me have to retrieve it slower than I'd like.

Well, if you mean I only had ONE lure to bring with, it would be a lipless crankbait.

If you mean my favorite lure, it'd be a Tail Dancer.

Both great baits, but really quite different despite similar shad profile. Different bouyancy, different materials, one is a loud rattler and one is not. I use both and wouldn’t ever want to choose one or the other!

what style/brand do you use?

Thanks!

Flicker Shad in perch color for everything but trout and a purpledescent tail dancer for trout and large pike.
Second go to is a jig with a ring worm.

I have other cranks in my “deep” box— reef runners, deep husky jerks, bombers— but it’s mostly TDS.

For the TD fans, grab a scatter-rap series with the curved bill if you can. I think the deepest version only trolls to 20 instead of 30 but they can be the ticket when nothing else works for me. Instead of running true they veer like a poorly-tuned crabk, then correct course, then veer again.

I'm going to require duct tape to seal my tackle tray before my June trip this year lest I add 20 more lures due to inspiration from this thread!

I'm not too picky....Usually whatever I can find on sale. LiveTarget makes really good ones, but they're pretty expensive, so a Rippin' Rap is probably on the end of my line most often. Strike King makes good ones, too. Honestly, I don't think brand matters that much. Just my .02.

Oh, and I assume you were tasking about the lipless crankbaits. :)

Yes, I was asking about the Rippin Rap.

Haven't used them before, and was going to take a fire tiger and maybe pink uv with me, for my spring trip, and try them out.

I was looking up your suggestion on duo realis and there are two gill colors. Ghost gill and prism gill. Which one do you recommend?

3rd. 1/4 oz jig with 4" white twister tail. Removable spinner blade too. I order that stuff in bulk from Northland for river smallmouth fishing. You can get your cost down to about 50 cents a lure.

I was pitching that setup beneath some falls and catching 25-30 inch northern consistently. I removed the blade to let the lure run a little deeper and I limited out in 16-17 inch walleye in about 30 minutes.

About as versatile as it gets.

Both work great. Prism Gill is my favorite. Always the first lure I tie on.
