DIY shelters that pair a tarp with netting can be an economical alternative. Black no-see-um netting is recommended.

CCS makes a tarp with bug netting. And if you need protection at the thunderbox...get a suzy bug net to put over you.

I have a Sea to Summit that I hang under the tarp. Enough room for 4-5 adults to sit on chairs in it. Packs down to size of Nalgene bottle. Can't seem to find it on their website.

I used to take a car camping type screen tent. I'd leave the poles behind and string of up like a tarp.

I also had an Eureka VCS (variable component sysrem). It was a tarp with a clip in screen. I don't know if these are still made.
