My group is heading there for 3 nights in July, and we love having a nice site.
I know it's a popular area, so I thought some people might have site recommendations.
I guess anywhere between the very west part of Basswood Lake where it becomes a river, up through the river to the first couple bays of Crooked is the area we're targeting.
We don't need to be ON TOP of the falls or anything, just somewhere in that area with a kick ass site would be nice!
Thanks for any help!

Brother in law and I stayed close to falls last May. We went in at about 7 PM and paddled until 2:30 am (kayaks are a bit slow). We basecamped there, marked some Lakers to the east in the 80 ft hole, but they were deep, at 50-70' due to 80-90 degree days. Caught walleye on the far east end bays, around the island and to the west bays. They moved into 20' water on us on day 3 with water rapidly warming. Small mouth were easy to come by, so were pike.
Island served us well for day trips, shade, fish but not much wood. A lot of those sites in the area are picked over for the leave no trace gatherers of fallen wood (some evidence of trees cut that appeared in good shape). I will say, the sites were clean, no trash, some small things, but all in fire pit.
Because of motor traffic, it is best to move extremely early or at night to avoid traffic on portages. So night movement was good (moon and no wind were our friends).

We'll be there at the end of our trip for a week, end of June/beginning of July. We hope with a good week to burn, we'll be able to snag a good one. We'll be a full group, so we are always looking for a nice site to sit back and chill as well. I'll try to remember to post back on here what we find/where we stay, and hope some others make recommendations as well.
Cheers! Have a great trip!

The site just below Lower Basswood Falls is one of my favorites! The one just above the falls is nice too. I love hearing the sound of the falls at night.
There are pictographs just north of the camp and a bit further north is Table Rock.
Here is a link to a slide show from our last trip to Lower Basswood Falls. Lower Basswood Falls Slide Show especially from minutes 4:00 -12:00
