The first photo is looking towards a portage. I did not use this portage to enter or exit. The group of 4 canoes in second photo also did not use this portage and I never used a portage that they used and I never used the same portage twice. So.....how many portages was that?

Did a lot of winter camping on that lake.

Winner winner chicken dinner. I guess my map searching skills paid off assuming it was on the Eastern side of the BWCA.

Is the French lake in the photo the one northeast of Little Sag in the BWCA? I heard it was completely torched in the last fire that went through that area. If it is the northern site, I stayed there around 2004, but the photos look nothing like the site that I stayed at. I remember it as being a pretty lousy site, with a steep drop off from the site on the south side at the edge of the campsite.

If the photo is fairly recent, I may want to re-visit French. Thanks a lot!

Photos are from the south site. North site was toast in 2015 when I went through there. Most of the lake was burned except around that southern site. Pics were 7-8 years post fire...now it's 11-12 years.
