Do you want the phone on your thwart so you can easily grab it off the thwart and take a photo. If so, I’d look at various car mounts. The magnetic ones may work but you could lose your phone in a capsize. They probably aren’t designed for that. Bicycle mounts may be quite secure.

I'm thinking something that is locked in but can be rotated to snap photos while mounted. One less thing for me to lose track of.

A bicycle mount might do it, thanks andym.

The bicycling world has many options to attach a phone to a handle bar. If you have round aluminum thwarts I'm sure you'll find something that works

Yep Ram’s you’re Uncle! Ram Mount This is what I use. My only gripe with it is the little rubber knobs slide off too easy. I ended just pulling them all off after I lost one. And wrapped the end with grip tape.
