Looking at possibly doing a last minute trip. Probably a Monday through Friday trip starting the 9th or 16th of September. What is the weather and fishing typically like mid-Sept for the lakes in the southeast region of the park?

Mid September can be very unpredictable for weather. Right now temps
are cool and the coming week below normal temps are predicted. I was fishing today and the surface temp was 69 degrees. My guess is that lakers will still be
deep. But who knows this far out.

Typically the weather is very nice then with average temps of mid 60's and mid 40's, but is also highly variable and could be between 25 and 85. I have generally had very good weather in Sept., but not always. I don't let it stop me from going as there is a higher probability of good weather. I don't fish, so can't help you there.

The fish will start to transition to their fall feeding habits in mid to late September. Water temps will dictate where they will be. If you can find some good current areas fish them hard. Current is a Walleye magnet in all seasons. If water temps are in the low 50’s fish the edge of the reefs, especially the transitional area where mud meets gravel and rock. I would also check any weeds you can find. Have done well fishing weeds even mid day. Don’t know if you are targeting Lake Trout, but fall is a great time. Depending on water temps, they can be anywhere. As far as weather, pack for 80 degree weather, and 20 degree weather no matter what the forecast is!

Thanks everyone. Hope I can pull this off. I'm at my max accrued vacation time and have stopped earning any along with having 6 days of personal time I have to take before the end of the year. Talking with the wife last night she suggested a I make a trip to the BWCA. My jaw feel to the floor so hoping I can pull it off on short notice.

You can do it. I know you have done some work on it already. If you have any questions just ask.

Fishing should be pretty good. Weather at that time I'd personally only bring a lined flannel or fleece and some long underwear for the cold. The rest would be just a tshirt or two and a pair of camping pants with the zip off for shorts. It might get cold during the night but I rarely get cold and that little extra stuff would keep me warm. You can always help layer with your rain suit too if it gets windy.
I'd bank on weather low of 40 at night and high of 70 in the day. With the extremes being what boonie said.

Cold isn't bad but if mixed with wind or rain it can be. Be prepared for that with a tarp and how to make wind blocks or rain shelters.

Was looking at the extended forecast for Ely and it's supposed to be mid to high 60's all week during the day and low 40's overnight, but also it looks to be quite windy, 6-10mph with gusts 18-20mph....hope this helps ya a bit!! We are going in the same day, entering in at EP27!

I will be out during that same period...the weather looks great to me...last year at this time it was too warm. Caught fish though...not a problem.
