A secret jewel of mine is Big Bass Lake south of Walker MN in the Chippewa NF. Google Earth it.
There is an Island on the lake with a BWCA like campsite on it, it has nice big White Pines, Latrine and a picnic table, with flat areas for many tents. It will not be occupied this time of year. If it woud be, there is a primitive campground just south of the Island for a back up.

Email me if you want more info.
Pen is at the island. Pic.

Thanx for the info! Had a great trip for a 2 day, solo get away. Solitude, Peace, and Joy! Left right before the rain started. Stayed the 3rd night at Savannah State Park cabin. Soon to be my 'most' favorite state park!! Love that area! I was born in Palisade,MN. It was like going home again. Peace brother!

The public access is kinda steep with small rocks. I have a Ford Focus and 14 foot Crestliner. I was able to pull the boat out every time but if it was rainy it might be tough for me.

Its really pretty, go on a non-holiday weekend or weekday otherwise it might be taken. That happened to me one time, there are two other Islands on that lake so we just camped on one of them, but only one of the two other Islands has a small level tent pad and all Islands have poisen Ivy. Not a problem for me but was for for the wifey.
