Hey folks,

I'm back to gain some insight from the ol' pros. After my last trip this May, I've decided I want to add a fish finder to my setup. I'm a decent fisherman and have rarely used them on any of my other trips unless someone else had one, and I've got to admit that leg up on the fishing is nice. Are there any {NEWER} brands/models that you can recommend that are both portable/removable and will work on an aluminum canoe {2019 Models?} Any pictures of your setup? I'm looking for a fish finder only as I already own a Garmin GPS. Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!

Lots of threads on this...

I do not use any but am not going to be such a snob. Doesn't take much to realize you are a quite new member and may have not familiarized yourself with the board functions.
A link to the first listed of many.

Welcome to BWCA.COM! Many more helpful folks than the few opinionated.

Lots of threads on this from 2011-2015, some in 2018 for kayaks and kevlar.

I'm looking for something a little more recent as I am more than likely going to buy a new unit and the tech is always changing. But if there is an "older" model that you think works better than the new ones, I am all ears for that as well, especially if i can save on eBay for a used one.

My old Vexilar Boundary Waters LC10 (no longer made) will work through aluminum and single ply Kevlar (Souris River) if I splash a small puddle of water in the bottom of the canoe and place the transducer in the puddle. On Kevlar with a foam core and on Roylex I use the suction cup that is provided and place it on the outside of the canoe. I hope this helps. Anthony

Thanks for the advice! Right now I'm deciding between a suction cup or a transducer bracket that I can remove/adjust if I need. What was your experience with the suction cup? I would prefer this route for weight. Thanks!
