Thanks for the trip report. I too have done this trip with and without a trip partner. Nice pictures and I'm glad you enjoyed your time. Don't feel too bad about your navigation error. One time I stayed at that island site and had two guy paddle by and then 1/2 hour later stop at my site because all they had was a big map from a book. They too had missed the channel and really needed a decent map but they made do. Thanks again for the report.

Thanks for the trip report - Long Island is one of our favorite destinations. AWESOME photos of the moose. We had a mama and baby crash through the back of our site (#570) in July and eat dinner in our little bay.

Nice,
That campsite looks like the one I spent a week on during the Famine Fire in 2006.
I was a Taskforce leader, and had 2 crews on that Island right across from your campsite, putting out the fire. The island was about 2/3 bunt over, we saved what was left.

I always wanted to go back there but have not made it back yet.

Great report, and fantastic photos. Love the moose sequence. I've only been to the Gunflint side once (Poplar to Winchell via Horseshoe/Gaskin this past spring), and yours is exactly the type of trip I'd like to take in the next year or two. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. I like Cross Bay entry and that general area. Hope the knee doesn’t give you any more problems.

Beautiful pictures! Congrats on the weight loss and I can tell you from experience that your next goal for weight loss will be well worth it. We loved the #2010 island site this summer. It had some awesome erratics, but the best tent sites are back quite a ways from the kitchen area. Glad you found another site to your liking. Hope you get your knee figured out.

I enjoyed your trip report. I have not made it to that area, but would like to some day. I was hoping to get a fall trip in, but it just hasn't worked out, and it is getting late! This is what I love about the trip reports, even if I can't make it up there, I can read a report and feel like I am there. Thanks for sharing the adventure!

Thanks for the comments, straighthairedcurly! I'll get the knee figured out, and I have really been inspired by the weight loss experiences that you have shared. Thanks, also, for your clarifying comments on site #2010 -- I didn't spend enough time there. I'm sure the sunrises on that eastward-facing rock were amazing!

And thank you, 30Smoke, and I'm sorry you couldn't make it on your Fall trip this year. I totally agree about the trip reports and how great they are when you're feeling a bit cooped-up. After getting so much enjoyment out of everyone else's on this forum, I'm glad that anything I might have captured would put a smile on someone's face!

Looking forward to all of our future adventures!

Cheers,
Dave.
