I just got off the phone with MagicPaddler, having discussed the Bushwhackers Jamboree which is rolling around again.
Wow time flies !!
He deferred to have me pick the lake again, even though I offered to let him pick it.
MagicPaddler was the only one who camped with canoe, on the chosen lake, in 2015.
So...
Bushwhackers Jamboree IV (2020)
WHO....Whoever can get a permit and get to the lake on the dates to be revealed later. No daytrippers (campers only)...we will gather in the evening.
WHAT...It will be an informal meeting of tough and hardy travelers, where stories and information will be told. Knowledge, that has been earned, and should continued to be earned.
WHERE...It will be on a lake near the middle of Quetico, with no name, no portage trail to it (none), good depth, good water, plenty of bugs and campable shorline, and maybe...just maybe good fishing.
WHEN....It will be in mid-June 2020...when bugs are bad, and so are the voyageurs.
WHY...Because the best information should be earned. Because exploring those no-name lakes makes for great adventure. Because I want to meet other bushwhackers and hear where they've been, and tell them where I've been, and exchange great stories.
While I'd love to go and shake the hand of others who get there, issues on the home front make it tough for me to pull off long trips....but you never know.
How...Just get there

walllee: "Hey Stumpy, how about Zephira!!"
Thought about it, but that would go against my original plan, of "no name" lakes.
Still, I might bend to pressure.
Very slim chance I'd be going this time.
My wife needs constant care.

BeaV: "Sounds interesting...could this be what pulls me into the Quetico for the first time?
So other than MagicPaddler, who else has made it to prior meetups? Daytrippers not included, of course!"
I think Phgportager, Hexnymph, Pennpaddler + crew made it in 2005 and 2010. Only group in 2005
Stumpy and several groups made it in 2010. Kingfisher intrepid camper, unclemoose...I’d have to do a search for more. Sorry can’t remember if I left anyone out.

Grandma L: "Dang, I better start recruiting super strong Sherpas or just sit home and watch you all on SPOT. "
That's not a bad idea. I can only trip in August and September but watching live as it happens on SPOT would be a lot of fun.

I'm torn between two lakes, both near each other.
One looks like it would have much more camp worthy shoreline but seems shallow (might hold pike).
The other looks deeper (might have trout), but does not seem to have as good of campsite options.
I'm only going on aerial photos, & topo maps.
I'm thinking of putting them up, for a limited time vote.
