I bought the orange coloured version a couple of years ago. This knife was highly recommended on this site. I pulled the trigger and I am glad I did.

I have a Mora LightMyFire knife. It's nice. Not full tang, so I don't use it for batoning, I carry a different knife for that.

This is a great knife, I have the Stainless steel versions of this knife. It is one of the sharpest knives I own. I have butchered a deer or a hog with a couple of these. It really holds an edge well. No need to buy fancy knives when these are available. With the flat grind it is also very easy to maintain a razor sharp shaving edge.

I use one of those three sided stones in a holder. You don’t need the coarse stone for this unless starting out from a very dull edge, or removing a chipped edge. I put oil on the stone while sharpening. Use your fingertips to force the blade flat against the stone and make overlapping strokes until you have a sharp edge. Then flip it over and repeat with the other side. When you are close to getting your knife super sharp, start counting your strokes. Keep the number of sharping strokes the same for each side. The key is to keep the same edge as the bevel of the blade, no curved or rolled edge. You could also use 400 grit sandpaper glued to a glass to sharpen. One more time, don’t roll the edge and keep the exact edge angle. I don’t use a strop but you sure could if you wanted.

I bought my Morakniv five years ago, not sure which kind, but it was only $13 and it has performed like a champ. I use it to baton firewood on all my trips. It may outlast me (which wouldn't be THAT big a deal).

I've used the Companion in SS and Companion HD in CS for the past several years and love them. I've never had an issue with durability (botoning), and you can't beat the edge for the money. Thanks, rdgbwca, for the heads up. Picked up a backup of each, and a few for gifts.

I have one already, but just bought a second one. Thanks for the tip. I have many better (and much more expensive) fixed blade knives, but I always take this one. I use it for splitting wood just like in the picture, it holds an edge pretty well, and I figure that if I ever lose it, no big deal.

I have a few of these and have found they take an edge very well. I usually just have to strop and the edge is back. I do grind the spline on all of mine to 90º and refine the edge a bit but other than they mine seem to hold an edge. I carry a DMT diamond card for touch ups and it works well.

Great knives for the money. I have the carbon steel, it will rust/stain, but very easy to sharpen, holds the edge well, and I paid under $20. I have also used it for batoning, with no issue, but I now carry a small axe for processing the firewood.

Me too... field dressed my deer with it and it took zero effort as that thing is sharp! And I didn’t loose it in the dusk. It was right at the end of shooting time.

I got a mora carbon steel about 12 yrs. ago (because it was under 10 bucks) and still very pleased with it. Looks like the same set up and comfy handle. Id rather have a leather sheath,but hey; it works well.

+2. I wore the orange one with the stainless blade on my belt and it served me well on the water and in the camp kitchen.

Each August area sporting groups and businesses put together a youth outdoor activity day with over 2000 kids in attendance. One of the activities is fire building where the participant batons kindling and lights a small fire. I have 16 Mora HD Companions formerly the Robust HQ. The kids beat the crap out of them. Half the time I think it’s a contest to see who can hit it the hardest. The event has been going on for five years. We have not had one knife fail. Edge retention is great. When the knife gets stuck I have them flip it over and pound on the edge to back it out as it is safer than trying to pull it out. We have them split poplar, birch or spruce. I personally have many Mora knives of various models and feel they are a great value. I used to be cautious with them now I push their limits trying to find the failure point.
