I'm confused, how is this looking NE? If you are looking at all to the north the sunrise should be on your right, not your left like it is in the picture. Is the image mirrored or is it really looking southeast?

It's at sunset and yes looking NE. The whole sky was glowing. Looking at the map, almost perfectly looking 45 degrees given the landmarks in the pic and google maps.

To everyone else, an earlier guess was very close

wrestlencanoe: "Nina Moose"

Bingo! From the site on the point looking NE into that arm with small rocky island nearer to us. Could hear water falling over a beaver dam a little ways up the portage river. Caught a ton of small pike in the current there the next morning

BTW - do you guys pronounce it "NINE - a- Moose", or "NEE- na Moose"? It naturally seems like the second one when you read it, but I've heard a few people pronounce it with the long "i" sound. That's somehow just uncomfortable to me.

I've always said Nee-nah Moose. Not that I'm a local or anything, but that's what we've always said seeing on the map

I have always heard and said "Nine-a" but was only a local for a couple of summers.
