anyone know of a quick way to search your photo gallery for something specific? over the years i've made separate folders for categories, but somehow my general folder got to over 900 photos which should probably be separated into other folders. so, i'm looking for bear photos i've taken that must be in that general folder somewhere. how can i search for just bears? can i do that?

I have asked adam a few times whether this can be the next new feature added here. So many times, I have no idea the exact name I gave to a photo and so searching alphabetically back and forth guessing at title is certainly time consuming...

adam?...

Good luck! I gave up some time ago and now have a book full with some 270 pages of default photos. Each time I start to try I'll find something in there that starts another project.

I "only" have a collection of 535 photos, but I suppose I could try breaking them down into smaller albums, like: 'Fish', 'Equipment', 'Scenery', 'Trips by Year', etc. Even then, it would probably still be a long, drawn-out goose chase to find the *stringer* filled with *walleye* lying out on the *rock shelf at sunset* on our *2015 Trip to Agnes Lake*... :-(

I have to act like I’m sending a photo to a thread just to get to the point of scrolling through. Luckily I never was a big picture taker.

If you click on 'Your Account' at the top of any page, then 'Photos' and pick a Journal, you'll see them. But, taking this route, you see them in reverse-chronological order... most recently added shown first. That's only *some* help, as I can never remember how long ago the pic I'm looking for was added...

They may be in order of posting date but has nothing to do with the date taken. I do obviously take many many photos and that expanded exponentially with digital photography. Jut my post processed .jpegs add up to over 100GB of data space. All my saved photo files going back to 2004 total more than a terabyte of storage, but they are organized by date and time. I may need a week to sort my photo collection here, may happen some day. But that may kill the serendipity of looking thru them and finding forgotten treasure!

Right, butthead? Never-ending project.

So, adam... I'll ask again: Is there ever any hope of Photo Search becoming a new feature? I'll bump up my annual donation to the site... :-)

"Never-ending project." and the results only truly suit the sorters definition of organized. In my case the T-Byte of photos I have stored on my computer system are all in folders by day taken then month groups and year groups (the program I used for offloading photos does this automatically per my settings). Suits the way I think, but may not for other searchers.
I'd just be happy with viewing more thumbnails than 12 at a time in the Gallery or the 30 displayed in the "add existing photo". But I still access BWCA.COM on a desktop with a big display, not on a smartphone.
Could use .exif info for sorting, again I do not know if this site is capable, or if the results are worthwhile.

I do like the bribery technique though schweady!

Yes, mine does that too, but then I usually can't remember stuff passed yesterday, so I started adding descriptions to the date tags as well.

Ok, we have added a few search abilities.

1) When you are adding to a messageboard post or trip report, you can search by partial photo name (e.g. moose). You can filter by journal and year the photo was added. This should help narrow them down. If you didn't add a photo name or put your photos in journals, then you are limited by year.

2) Similarly, you can search within your photo journals in general through "your account" or through the photo -> photo gallery.

Let me know via email if you have issues.
