EP: 30 (Lake One) & travel to Hudson for the base, or Insula.

Dates: Open; Hoping for mid-May
I have about 7-8 days including travel.

My brother and I have been going to the BWCA almost every year for over 40 years. The events this year have changed our plans for our annual May trip so we set our sights on next year, I'm sure my brother is willing to go next year and we/I are hoping to join a group or have two or four fisher people accompany us. If for whatever reason my brother is unable to go, I would like to join a group making the group an even number. My/our main focus is fishing & generally the only fish kept will be eaten that night- For example, last year our group caught tons of "eatable fish", but kept none during the entire trip.
We keep an organized site and of course, leave the site(s) without any trace when done. We like to be on the water before sun-up and fish until the catch tapers off. Then it's back to camp for food, stories, relaxing, but if the group has other ideas, let's try it! When the afternoon approaches, the camp is readied to come back after dark so fishing may continue until dusk, or if there's no bite. At times, we day trip to a lake we haven't fished, and if the catch is worth it, consider moving base camp to that lake.
We/I have all the equipment to share for the base camp if needed; kitchen utensils, rain-flys, ropes, food-barrels, etc... If others want to join me/us, the only gear needed would be your tent(s), and personal gear, and we can split the cost of the staple food(s), & fuel we take in. Obviously, I/we want to join a group to make to make it an even number. If the other members have food, it could just mean one more barrel/container to carry. This shouldn't be an issue as I can carry the canoe and a bag of about 50 or so pounds if need be. Also, we use the leapfrog method when we portage which has proven to save time and keep us on track to make it to our destination timely.
We/I will be driving up to the Ely area from the Chicago suburbs. my vehicle filled with gear and the canoe on top will only accommodate 1 passenger, so one person can travel with me (if my brother doesn't make the trip). I secure the permit, so there's no need to be concerned about that. Alternate leaders may be listed, or if another from the group would rather secure the permit, this works too.
Whether you are just a beginner or seasoned voyageurs, it will be a fun time, and I'd love to hear from you.

I might be interested in joining you next year, although nothing is definite so far in advance. Although I generally live in Skokie, I am currently hiding out at my cabin in the north central part of wisconsin. Therefore, I would meet you in Ely. These days, I hammock, and would prefer to use my solo prism, if convenient.

P.s. If you recall, we met a few years ago about a trip, but it did not work at that time.

I would be interested in joining you if your brother doesn’t go. Our goals of fishing and camps seems compatible.

Just got back from a 9 day trip to Insula and Alice. Caught fish both places, even in early August.

FYI, the campsites on Hudson are still not that attractive due to the fire. IMHO, I think its worth it to hump over the portage to Insula, to the north end of Insula past the fire damage, or else go up to Fire for a base camp.

Update on this:
Brother is not going to join for this year's trip. I will be looking to join a group if they will be going to the number lakes. As stated in the original post, my main focus is on fishing. If there are others out there that have room for a single (with a kevlar Mad River canoe), or if there is one person that would like to go, please message me.
Thanks

I might be interested, depending on specific dates and length of trip. I prefer my prism solo these days, so that could work out fine. I think we met once, so if you recall I have my own stuff too and I sleep in a hammock these days. I much prefer the gorgeous sites on Fire, but I am open to any of the numbered lakes including Hudson. I will probably be at my place in northern Wisconsin (just north of Antigo) so you could either pick me up there or we could meet in Ely. My place is 4.5 hours north of Chicago and 6 hours from Ely so coming here would add an hour or so to the total trip. On the other hand, you could come the night before and we leave from here.

Thank you for the offer Mitch, but I'm looking to join a group or have someone share my watercraft. It's great that you're accustomed to your watercraft, but for me to paddle my canoe solo, is too difficult on windy days. It's also cumbersome fishing and controlling the canoe (especially when it's windy). Lastly, it is more work carrying an additional watercraft when there is only two in a group.
Hopefully you are able to meet with a group or find another like you that prefers soloing?!
Thanks again.
