I refurbished an old outfitter's SR 18.5 with three seats two years ago. It turned out great. For this year's trip, it may be just two of us going. Would it make sense to take the third seat out to cut weight or does the boat need to have the third seat in for structural integrity? Thanks!

When I tandemed with our SR Q18.5 I always took the 3rd seat out.

I leave it in on my trips but not for structure. It's a great place to set your depth finder.

We tandomed with the seat in. Not much weight for bysecampers. j Never know when you will pick up a hitch hiker.

If the boat has a center thwart, there will be no effect on hull stiffness or structural integrity if the seat is removed.

Hi Tom,
Have removed mine on a number of occasions, never had an issue and have been in some rough conditions with no ill effects.
