I don't really need to know but... I really need to know: "This message has had HTML content edited out of it" is the first line of multiple recent posts on numerous threads.

What does this mean?
Who is editing out this content?
Should I be editing my HTML content?
Have you all been replaced by body snatching aliens with HTML intolerances?

As I said, I don't really need to know...

A lot of the times I post something and then I read it and I find a typo, or a sentence that I could have written more clearly. Then I will hit the edit button and correct it. I think then to others it says HTML edit. Another thing I might do is re-read what I have written and it’s a tad too harsh. So then I edit out part of the post. I know Adam did some site maintenance and this might be one of then.

These seem to have surfaced since the forum updates. Don't recall seeing them prior to this.

HTML is-- Hyper Text Markup Language

A quote usually results in the message being removed. I can't make a quote in my message or it gets removed. Adam can explain why he has it removed. Probably a security thing.

These notices are new to me, as well.

This message has had HTML content edited out of it.

In my example here, the above message pops up because I put some random words inside of the 'less than' and 'greater than' characters that are usually reserved for starting and ending quoted pieces of a previous post.

In past experience, it sometimes shows up if I quote someone's previous message, try to trim it down to the pertinent info, and mess up with the HTML parts that surround the quoted text.

I think Schweady’s on the mark. I too think I recall seeing this automated message a few times, but am seeing it more now. I’ll bet it is an automated attempt to stop the “runaway quotations” what would sometimes hit. A LOT of times people would try to quote someone and accidentally mess with the HTML (The greater or lesser signs, or quotation marks, etc) that would appear in the comment box without knowing it.

I wish it were a salve for runaway quotes but those are done using bbcode, which the software that powers the forum understands in addition to limited html.

Some kinds of HTML are ok, such as hyperlinks. HTML can also be used to embed images, YouTube links, etc. You can also control the formatting, font size, and other aspects which I believe is what is part of the not allowed subset of html tags.
