San-Mai means "three pieces". (A 1095 high carbon core sandwiched between two pieces of 416 stainless steel. (To forge weld stainless to non-stainless steel requires it be be brought up to about 2100 degrees in an oxygen-free environment then let "soak" for about 17 minutes. Then forge-welded.) S.O.B. means Short Occasional Bowie. Frosted and hot-blued guard and stabilized end-grain spalted maple.
