This was a fun read - thanks for writing it up. Very enjoyable to hear someone did NOT have trouble with bugs or finding open campsites! Sounds like a great trip, and I love that route.

Last summer I stopped at the sandy beach at the top of Nina Moose not far from your camp. I saw something I thought was poison ivy, but had thorns. The consensus here was that it was either blackberries or dewberries. PI vs Blackberry vs Dewberry thread Any chance this is what you saw in the last camp site??

Oh, and how cool finding those wolf bones!

We used the sand beach just to the East of the campsite to clean up and cool off. There is an even nicer beach just west of where the lake goes into the river.

I am absolutely confident it is PI. I have a long history with PI and am always on the lookout.

I'd think the boat traffic you were worried about on LLC has dropped quite a bit this year. (since US boats can't use the Canadian side to get to the Bottle portage)

Great report and thanks for sharing. I’m going in that area at the end of Aug and may go on into pocket, finger, gun area etc and come out the south shore of LLC and then back out.

We had planned to go to Gun to target some lakers and brook trout. When we got to Ge-be and looked at the distances in and out we reevaluated our goals. We decided we wanted time to relax, sit in the hammocks, and fish at our leisure rather than keep pushing. Perhaps on another trip we will go early in the year to target lakers. Best wishes if you choose to make the trip we planned, it looked like a great trip.

Those are definitely berries, not poison ivy. I grow blackberries and blueberries in my yard at home here in North Carolina, and the season is almost over. I have learned something that might help you if you are ever in an "early" phase of the season where the blueberries are not quite ripe, but getting there. You can pick them if they are red or pink or even with a smidge of white, and a day or 2 later they will be ripe. If you are on an extended trip and pass through an area where you see a bunch but not quite ready to eat, pick them and put them in a container for a day or 2. I have harvested over 3100 berries off 1 plant in the last 6 weeks by doing that.
