Couldn't find one on the used market and have wanted to try a thinner, lighter blade for awhile so I pull the trigger on this one:

3v is my favorite fixed blade steel. For me, it has the ideal balance of price, edge holding, toughness, and stain resistance. This blade did not disappoint. At 3/32 thick, I was concerned I would roll or nick the edge. After making stakes, feather sticks, and just whittling maple I am no longer concerned. It not only handled all the tasks, but sliced paper thin afterword.

At 4.5oz for a 4.25 inch blade it is incredibly light. For comparison my GNS with the same blade length comes in at nearly double the weight of 8.3oz.

I was worried about learning to sharpening a convex edge, but have found it quite simple and quick. The beauty of the 3v steel is it never really gets dull enough on a trip to need anything more than a touch up on 2000 grit sandpaper and a leather strop.

Overall it is not a pretty knife, but very functional. From making feather sticks, getting out slivers, to slicing cheese, I give it 5 stars.

Looks like a fine tool that should last a life time or two.......enjoy!

You asked about the style in the other post. I've had two Kephart knives. Both have moved on. It's not so much the style. I really liked my Gossman Kephart but the handle was a smidge too large--it was A2. The other Kephart I had was 1095 and I just wasn't using it so I sold that as well. I have thought about getting another Gossman or a Matt Paul Kephart, just haven't taken action on it. I have too many knives.......... if that is such a thing.........

I was worried the handle would be to small on the BR, as the GNS fits my hand perfectly. That isn't the case though, they some how designed it to were it fits my paws, and my 13 year old daughter loves it as well. I have only owned drop points in the past, but after using the spear point hard for a few days I see no down side to it.
You can never have too many knives! They don't take up much room, and make great gifts.
