Couldn't find one on the used market and have wanted to try a thinner, lighter blade for awhile so I pull the trigger on this one:
3v is my favorite fixed blade steel. For me, it has the ideal balance of price, edge holding, toughness, and stain resistance. This blade did not disappoint. At 3/32 thick, I was concerned I would roll or nick the edge. After making stakes, feather sticks, and just whittling maple I am no longer concerned. It not only handled all the tasks, but sliced paper thin afterword.
At 4.5oz for a 4.25 inch blade it is incredibly light. For comparison my GNS with the same blade length comes in at nearly double the weight of 8.3oz.
I was worried about learning to sharpening a convex edge, but have found it quite simple and quick. The beauty of the 3v steel is it never really gets dull enough on a trip to need anything more than a touch up on 2000 grit sandpaper and a leather strop.
Overall it is not a pretty knife, but very functional. From making feather sticks, getting out slivers, to slicing cheese, I give it 5 stars.
