Is there a place to park and put in at the end of Clearwater road? Looking to day trip into Caribou and it looks like the road ends fairly close to the portage.

I imagine it's all private back that way, just looking for someone to confirm it's a no go.

If you get to Clearwater Lodge and turn left on (I think it is still Clearwater Road) there is an entry point with a parking lot. It is a ways around there, but not too far.

That is a nice day trip.

Have fun!

Do you mean south Clearwater road? If so then I believe that’s all private with no parking?

But the main branch of Clearwater road literally terminates at EP 62. you could launch there and paddle directly across CW to the Westernmost portage from that little bay (the one that goes to both deer and caribou). I think it’s an old road bed. Not an easy portage according to reviews but should be doable for a day trip.

Thank you both for the replies, sounds like launching from the entry point is the way to go. I was just hoping to shave some time but you're right, it's not a long paddle.

Can't wait to be up north again.

At the very end of road (before private drives) there is a small boat launch and a SMALL parking lot right across from boat launch. Couple cars...should see it on Google maps.

Cowdoc and Shock -- are you guys referring to the end of clearwater road (where the official EP signage is) or south clearwater road? I'm not aware of a parking lot or access at the end of SOUTH CWR, but I am with the main branch and EP. I've used the EP 62 ramp and parking lot the last two years and it's not all that small. Room for 8-ish vehicles without trailers on the east side, and another 2-3 rigs with trailers parked the "long way" along the west side.

Here's a google earth photo of the EP with the lot I'm talking about. You can see maybe 6 cars parked on the east side and room for a couple more there. The zoomed out image has an asterisk with this location.

Yes....correct. I was never there when anyone was parked there. I assumed no parking on the "boat ramp" and assumed the only parking was in the little notch in the woods. Seemed small to me. I stand corrected and I would also be nervous about leaving my vehicle parked alongside of a boat launch for a week LOL.

Yes, I have seen some very adventurous routes taken down boat ramps in my time haha!

Thanks for the details here. My original request was unclear, I'm looking to park at the end of South Clearwater Road and scoot across that tiny bay to the portage heading to Caribou.

South Clearwater looks like a private drive only with no parking spot to launch there?

It might be worth just giving a phone call to Clearwater lodge about this. On the map it really looks like south Clearwater Road goes directly through their property and provides access to some of their cabins as well as two private residences, but I don’t know that the road itself is “private. “ How soon are you planning your trip? I will be up there on the 25th and would be happy to check out the situation for you and report back.
