See a lot of these lately...
Fiberglass Penobscot

"Old Town Penobscot 16' Fiberglass Canoe
Excellent Condition. One Person can carry the canoe. Comes with shoulder portage attachment and two paddles."

So did Old Town ever make one??

Do people really know what they have??

People frequently don't know the details of their gear; I'm surprised the CL post didn't state that the canoe came with "two oars and a carry thingy". A quick search suggests early Penobscots were Royalex, while Old Town's catalog now states they're made of "three layer polyethylene". With this summer's run on outdoor gear of all stripes, expect to see lots of CL ads with incorrect descriptions for the next few years! There may be some bargains, though...

Yes "two oars and a carry thingy" are quite frequent descriptions. It's sometimes quite entertaining to read CL postings.

Sounds like a fair price to me, but yes, as trailzen stated, Royalex. I own a Discovery 145. Love the Royalex as it takes a pounding and is very stable. Yes, mine goes about 75lbs(?), but she's been in some very rough water.
