Does anyone own a CCS lean shelter near Grand Marais? I would like to purchase one from Dan for this summer as a family tent but want to set it up and consider it with my wife before pulling the trigger. Thanks!
It takes several times setting it up to get the hang of it. It helps to set it up with and without trees to support it to get a good feeling for it.
I have a 2 and a 3. It's very light and spacious. It's nice to be able to go in and out without having to crawl on your hands and knees. It's large enough to set up chairs in it on a rainy day. It's durable enough to handle strong winds. I use it as a tent for sleeping in and a screen house. There is a lot of room for gear on the wedged (short) end.
Along comes some things that bother some people. Although you can lay a tarp inside it on the ground overlapping the sod cloth, it's easy for rodents and other critters to get in. You may want to add some extra weight and bring along adjustable poles in case you don't have trees or can't find dead and down "poles". If it's cold or raining sideways and you need to have the flap secured from top to bottom you can expect condensation inside because of the single wall construction.
