Time for a new roll. If you have used both, which do you prefer and why?

Black Gorilla Tape is way better than Duct tape. It is stronger than Duct Tape, more water and UV resistant than Duct tape. Better adhere ability than duck tape.

I have been carrying it along with me on canoe trips for years.

Gorilla tape all the way. Used it to mend a paddle that broke in two. Made it all the way. Not only is the glue superior, but the tape is like cloth and doesn't tear easily.

No love for gaffers tape?
I carry a small 1" wide roll with me on trips as I find it just as effective as duct tape for less weight and zero residue in all temperature ranges.
I've found duct tape to not be as useful below freezing.

LOVE Gorilla Tape. I trip with 1" and 2" wrapped around my Camelbak water bottle.

I can also use Gorilla Tape to hold my hair in place

Gorilla for major repairs like the canoe, paddle or pack, but duct tape for tarps and tents. The thicker and stiffer tape isn't the best for all applications. The same weight of duct tape gives you more too.

Just be sure not to use Gorilla Spray Adhesive to hold your hair in place.

Gorilla most of the time. Some applications T-Rex tape is better (think Gorilla wins most categories, but if I remember correctly T-Rex has greater adhesion).

Regular duct tape is merely decorative by comparison.

Edit: Just remembered - for the last 5-6 years the DIY two-piece quiver on my compound bow has been held on entirely by Gorilla tape. I've done two trips chasing Elk in Utah and one chasing Muleys in Colorado, falling backwards on it once. A spot-and-stalk Pronghorn hunt. Countless whitetail hunts.

2nd edit: The attachment points for my DIY Solo Yoke are held in place with Gorilla Tape.

I'd say the best duct tape I've ever used was Nashua duct tape. Better than Gorilla tape. It's not as thick, and it's stickier. If I can't find Nashua I get Gorilla.

So which is best to repair the innie on my tent?

I do like gorilla tape but in the BW carry something called boat tape from Piragis. Can’t say that it is really any better as I haven’t had to tape my boat back together.

I agree with this. Two years ago I used regular duct tape to repair a wind torn seam on my bug shelter and it worked just fine until I got home to repair. Last year another seam tore out in strong wind and I taped shut with gorilla tape. At home I tried to remove the tape and the adhesive was so strong I tore all sorts of new holes in the mesh. Had to just cut it all out and put in a new piece.

So I agree with A1t2o - for hard surfaces like the bottom of my canoe I’d prefer gorilla, but for soft materials where I will have to remove it later regular duct tape will be better. Stronger isn’t always best.

I'm just impressed that we are actually using it's correct name: duct tape. Not duck tape. This is one impressive bunch!!

See, I was kind of getting annoyed by this since Gorilla tape is a specific brand/product whereas "duct tape" is so general that it's hard to know what Gorilla's tape is actually being compared to here. Alternatively "Duck tape" is a specific brand/product.

In any case, in the context of a heavy-duty multi-use tape in BWCA tripping, Gorilla would easily be one of the best to reach for, but then again, I don't think I've ever been on a trip in my life where I actually needed such tape and often don't bring any. I carry some Tenacious tape patches in the event garments, pads, tarps get damaged and have used that for those events, but that's it.

Don't Red and Green have a say in this?

I think I like ducks more than gorillas, but this may be just a phase. :)

Another vote for Gorilla Tape, there are a lot of good ones these days, but haven't found one better all around.

I vote for gaffers tape hands down! We reserve ours only for canoe trips. Gorilla tape or duct tape are for home usage, we’ve decide that our professional grade gaffers tape is too precious to use anywhere but in canoe country.

Has anyone tried Fiber Fix wrap? I saw it at the hardware store and bought some for an emergency canoe repair. Google Fiber Fix , I messed up trying to add the link.
On another note : alcohol swabs in the little packs make a nifty fire starter, burn for about 45 seconds .

Gorilla is my go to. Stronger tape and adhesive. I'm sure there are comparable brands of duct tape, but you always know you are getting the higher grade tape with Gorilla.
