I had 3 old aluminum Sigg bottles. They had been on many adventures and served me well. But the gaskets had dried out and the bottles started to leak.

I searched online and found this place in the UK. I ordered 3 gaskets and they arrived within a week or so. The gaskets fit great. They are Viton which is highly resistant to gasoline.

I know other folks struggle with their old bottles and I thought I would pass this on...

Good on ya for making it work rather than chucking it and starting over. Such a pain sometimes to find the simplest item and trial and error often just leads to frustration. Our McCoy ceramic flour and sugar canisters need new rubber gaskets and nothing I try is the right diameter...

The Sigg bottles share dimensions with the MSR bottles. If you can use it, the older O-ring fits and seals. This works fine on the Primus pumps I have. This has a MSR O-ring gasket on. Sigg makes a good bottle but the older bottles have insert threads, the MSR has cut threads. MSR is a bit stronger but never had a Sigg bottle fail. The MSR O-ring is a common size and found it hardware stores.
If the flat gasket is needed (the Primus stoves and pumps I have can work with either), it is also a common size.
Thanks for the Fettlebox link, have heard of them but used Needle Sports in the past for parts hard to source.

Several years ago Sigg made the fuel style bottles, but with lacquered coatings in the interior, for use with acidic and alcoholic drinks. We are still using them.
The original flat white washer always failed within one season, so we opted for neoprene o-rings from the local hardware store. It perfectly fits the recess in the Sigg screw-on cap.

Dimensions are 1.280" O.D. X 1.000" I.D. X .135" Cross Section. I think the cost is about 35 cents each. If you cannot source them locally, let me know and I will send you some.

All o-rings have an odd numbering system that I used to be fluent with, but too many years have passed.

Thanks for the info on replacement gaskets. I looked thru my bloated gear collection and found my old Sigg bottles. Two of them I purchased in the early 1970’s when I started backpacking. Those bottles went on my honeymoon backpacking trip to Isle Royale in 1974. One of the large bottles is dinged up thanks to tripping partners who kept it in the bottom of a pack they dropped when they took it off. Don’t really use them much anymore since I switched to MSR stoves and fuel bottles.

deerfoot, they work fine as MSR fuel bottles. Just be aware of the very slight leakage from the thread insert versions, do not over pressurize. I like to use small 10-11 ounce bottles for the stove fuel tank, the pickup gets to the bottom of the tank. Bigger bottles used for storage and extra fuel.

Thanks for the tip. Like so much of my other gear, I probably have too many fuel bottles. I have the Siggs, MSR bottles in several sizes and five red plastic Nalgene bottles which I really like for storage of extra fuel on long trips.

Yes they did. Uncle Phil of the Wabakimi Project had a blue 1 ltr Sigg beverage bottle in which he carried his wkly ration of Darmbuie in the early years of the project and in later years he switched to rum. At one point someone ruined the first bottle by filling it with stove fuel. He replaced it with a new one which he used on his final trips. It was sent out with the final WP trips in 2018. Each trip group passed the bottle around drinking a toast in Phil’s honor. He passed away in May 2018. That bottle now resides with Debbie D in Thunder Bay, Phil’s long time assistant and WP trip participant.

O-rings use a system called the (Dash Number), which corresponds to a particular ID and OD measurement. WW Grainger and McMaster Carr have them in most available sizes, in buna rubber, Viton, Teflon, and some other materials. Ace Hardware has a lot of the common ones too, although I think most of theirs are buna and Viton. Here is a link to the dash number sizing:

Do all the old Sigg bottles use the same size gasket? I like my old bottle and use it to carry extra fuel to refill my small MSR bottle. About 2 years ago I noticed some drying and surface cracks and went to a John Deere shop having been told implement dealers carry lots of gaskets. They did not have what I needed, but pointed out that if I just flipped it over I could get a little more use. I don’t want to depend on there advice much longer.
