Looking at going in the 16th of April to try and get a trip in before lake season starts for my family. Either looking to enter on Lake One and putz around for a few days, or, if ice is still not completely off, I will hike the Sioux hustler trail.

Anything I should know about the numbered lakes area except that some of it is burned?

Thanks

how many permits still available? that should tell you roughly how busy it'll be...which that's a busy one but probably not that early in the year

The quota season doesn’t start until May 1st, so BB will have to just go and see if anyone else is out there. I think you’re going to Lake One at the perfect time. The rapids between Lake 1 and 2 will be beautiful and you shouldn’t run in to many people. The southern shores of lake 2 and 3 are burned, but it’s not bad. Perfect time to go! Have fun!

That'll be pushing it for ice out for sure. I'd look at an EP with more current. Maybe Island River or South Kawishiwi?

I've always wanted to paddle through a burned area, and I thought early season before permit season starts would be a perfect time. I will be watching the ice out carefully, and if it isn't gone by the time I head up I will just go hiking instead. That's another good thing about going before permit season, if one plan doesn't work out I'm not stuck at a certain EP. Thanks for the input.
