For several years we have used MOBAL Communications for phone rental. Now they have apparently ceased doing rental and only do SIM cards. Can someone suggest a provider they have been happy with, and/or who they have NOT been happy with? Thanks for the help. MB

Stay away from Cell Hire. They were a terrible company. I got a phone from them last summer - sent it back and they claimed the antenna was damaged. Never provided proof. I got stuck with the bill. It was a mess.

I just ordered from SatModo for my trip last week, and it was ok. I probably would use them again. But their batteries they sent (2) were NOT fully charged and one showed low battery during the whole trip....I used that one for the five night trip and it never actually died, just showed low. Service was better in the evening - but thats probably not the company's fault. I have to return it tomorrow. But everything was sent out correctly and promptly. Even gave me a watertight container to store it in for trip (.99 cents per day though but worth it).

MB, I have rented straight from Piragis outfitting on a few past trips. Short term rental, convenient if in the Ely area, no shipping. Had it's own waterproof case IIRC. Give 'em a call for pricing, availability and reservations. It worked great for me as I was only looking for an emergency use asset. Depending on your intended usage, may or may not make sense for you.

I've rented from Outdoor Equipment Rentals. A lot of variety, were low cost, arrived when they were supposed to, worked like they were supposed to, and return shipping was easy.

We've reserved with them again for this year.

If you're going through an outfitter, check with them to see if they have them for rent. I've always had great luck renting them from Outfitters.
