A friend bought this canoe to hang in his cabin. Before I saw pix I asked if it's cedar and he said it looks like walnut. I know virtually nothing about wood canoes but I'm guessing it's cedar and mahogany. Anyone know what wood(s) it's made of?
Most of the hull looks like western red cedar which is quite variable in color. Some of the wood in the bottom "football" area is different. The white edged strips might be eastern red cedar. The really dark brown ones might be black walnut. I have some dark chocolate WRC, but that has a grayish brown color.
Weight would tell if there is any mahogany where I see cedar. Mahogany would make it a real heavy boat.
